4th edition of India Internet Governance Forum

Why in the News?

India Internet Governance Forum (IIGF) 2024 is being held on December 9-10, 2024 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
It is supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and National Internet Exchange of India.
Its fourth edition is being held under the theme “Innovations in Internet Governance for India.
- The hybrid editions of IIGF have been successfully organised in the years 2021, 2022 and 2023.

IIGF-2024

It will address key themes to advance a secure, inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystem.
The forum will focus on the following topics-
- Bridging the digital divide
- Enhancing trust and security in the online environment
- Leveraging advanced technologies for nation building
- Need for a secure, inclusive and ethical internet governance
- Key focus on responsible AI
Furthermore, building an eco-friendly and sustainable Internet will bring energy-efficient practices and environmental sustainability to the digital sector.
Its objectives:
- Explore key aspects of Internet governance
- Promote meaningful dialogue
- Highlight India's leadership in the global digital landscape
These wide-ranging discussions will bring together stakeholders from across sectors to address pressing challenges and harness opportunities in Internet governance.

It is the Indian chapter of the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (UN IGF), a global multi-stakeholder forum.
It promotes dialogue on public policy issues related to the Internet.
It was established in the year 2021.
It promotes collaborative discussions between representatives of government, civil society, industries, technical communities, think tanks and industry associations.
It aims to maximize the opportunities of the Internet while addressing the associated challenges and risks.
It plays a very important role in shaping policies for a secure and accessible Internet while addressing issues such as cyber security, digital inclusion, data privacy and emerging technologies.
