Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair the 72nd Plenary Meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Agartala, Tripura.
The Plenary Session will be attended by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia along with Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region Dr. Sukanta Majumdar.
The Governors and Chief Ministers of all the North Eastern States will be present in the meeting.
The NEC meeting will lay new foundations for the rapid development of the North Eastern Region.
The Plenary Session will focus on the activities of the NEC of the past year and address the aspirations of the States of the region.
The Union Home Minister will chair the Banking Summit aimed at reviving the economy in the North East.
The Summit will be attended by heads of all PSUs and private banks.
In addition, an in-depth analysis of the record number of bank branches in the region will be done.
North Eastern Council:
It was established under the North Eastern Council Act, 1971.
It was established as an apex body to ensure balanced and coordinated development and to assist in coordination with the states.
Its members are eight states of Northeast India. These include-
Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
Its headquarters is located in Shillong and it comes under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (Government of India).
