With an aim to make the Digital India initiative more effective, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology launched the Aadhaar Good Governance Portal (http://swik.meity.gov.in).
It was launched by Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
It aims to simplify the approval process of Aadhaar authentication requests.
This portal is part of the Ministry's efforts to make Aadhaar more friendly to citizens and ensure better access.
This platform has come into effect after Aadhaar authentication under the Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Amendment Rules, 2025.
This amendment was notified at the end of January 2025 under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016.
About Aadhaar:
The Aadhaar scheme was launched on 28 January 2009.
It is a 12-digit unique identification number issued by the Government of India.
It is managed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
It is based on biometric (fingerprint, iris scan) and demographic data.
