Anti-obesity properties in Tripura's 'Meli-Emili' bamboo

Why in news?

  • Recently, a new research has revealed that the extract obtained from the buds (bamboo shoots) of Tripura's traditional fermented bamboo variety 'Meli-Emili' has anti-obesity effects.
  • The research was conducted under the leadership of Professor Mojibur R. Khan of the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology, an autonomous institute of the Department of Science and Technology.
