Why in the news?

  • Recently, the central government has approved the continuation of Atal Innovation Mission.
  • For this, Rs 2,750 crore has been allocated till March 31, 2028.
  • It aims to promote strong innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • India is ranked 39th in the Global Innovation Index.
  • India is home to the world's third largest start-up ecosystem.
  • Its next phase is likely to further increase India's global competitiveness.
  • It is designed to strengthen India's innovation and entrepreneurship environment in 3 ways:
    • Increasing inputs
    • Improving success rates or 'throughput'
    • Improving the quality of output

Atal Innovation Mission:

  • It is a major initiative launched by the Government of India.
  • It was launched by NITI Aayog in the year 2016.
  • It has been launched to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the country.
  • Objectives:
    • To promote innovation in various sectors of the economy
    • To develop new programs and policies
    • To provide a platform and opportunities for collaboration for various stakeholders
    • To create awareness
    • To create an umbrella structure to monitor the innovation ecosystem of the country.
