Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana implemented in Odisha

Why in News?

Odisha has become the 34th state to implement Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

Key Points:

  • The MoU was signed by the National Health Authority, Union Health Ministry with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha.
  • The signing ceremony was presided over by Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers.
  • Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana will be implemented in Odisha in conjunction with the existing Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana.
  • It will provide a cover of Rs 5 lakh per family per year, with an additional Rs 5 lakh for female members.
  •  A total of about 1.03 crore families will be covered under this integrated scheme, with 67.8 lakh families to be assisted by the Central Government.

Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana:

  • It was launched in the year 2018.
  • National Health Authority is the nodal ministry for this scheme.
  • Goal: To provide free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary health services.
  • Selection of beneficiaries in this scheme is based on the data of Socio-Economic Caste Census 2011 (SECC 2011).
  • PMJAY is a fully government-funded scheme with the implementation cost shared between the central and state governments.
    • In the ratio of 60:40 for states and union territories with legislature.
    • In the ratio of 90:10 for the Northeast and three Himalayan states - Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal and Uttarakhand.
    • 100 per cent central funding for union territories without legislature.
  • There is no limit on family size, age and gender under the scheme.
  • PMJAY is a portable scheme, beneficiaries can avail the benefits of this scheme in any public or private listed hospital across the country.
  • Medicines, diagnostic services, doctors' fees, room charges, OT and ICU charges etc. are available free of cost under this scheme.
  • Under this scheme, diagnostic treatment, health treatment and medicines are available free of cost for 3 days before hospitalization and 15 days after hospitalization.
  • It is the world's largest health insurance/assurance scheme which is fully funded by the government.

Gopabandhu Jan Aarogya Yojana:

  • It is a health scheme of the state of Odisha.
  • It has been started by the state government for the poor and economically weaker sections.
  • Its objective:
    • To provide health services to the poor citizens of Odisha
    • To ensure access to high quality medical facilities
