Why in the news?
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah launched the BHARATPOL portal at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
BHARATPOL Portal:
- This portal has been developed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
- It will enable Indian law enforcement agencies to share real-time information.
- This portal will provide quick assistance in investigating international crimes such as cyber crime, financial crime, human trafficking, and drug trafficking.
- This portal will streamline processing of all requests for international assistance through INTERPOL.
- This will enable quick access to international police cooperation.
- This portal will become a transformational tool for field-level police officers.
- It will increase their efficiency in dealing with crimes and security challenges.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI):
- It is India's premier investigating agency.
- It investigates organized crime, corruption, and other complex cases.
- This agency works under the Central Government.
- It was established in 1941 as "Special Police Establishment (SPE)".
- In 1963, it was renamed as "Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)".
- It is formed under the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946.
- Its headquarters is located in New Delhi.
INTERPOL (International Criminal Police Organization):
- It is the largest international police organization in the world.
- Objective: To promote cooperation and coordination in criminal matters among member countries.
- Establishment: Year 1923
- Headquarters: Lyon, France
