CISF Foundation Day

Why in news?

  • Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah attended the 56th Foundation Day Parade of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) held at Takkolam, Tamil Nadu as the Chief Guest.
    • It has been decided to name the CISF Regional Training Center at Takkolam after Rajaditya Chola, the great warrior of the Chola dynasty.
  • CISF Foundation Day is celebrated every year on 10 March.
  • Special parades, felicitation ceremonies and other programs are organized on this day.
  • Soldiers who have made a significant contribution to the security of the country are honored on this occasion.

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF):

  • It is a major paramilitary force of India.
  • It is employed to protect the country's industrial units, government establishments and important infrastructure.
  • Brief Introduction:
    • Established: 10 March 1969
    • Headquarters: New Delhi, India
    • Motto (Quote): "Safe Industry - Prosperous Nation"
    • Personnel Number: Approximately more than 1.5 lakh (at present)
  • Main Functions and Responsibilities:
    • Industrial Security: Security of power plants, mines, refineries, steel plants etc.
    • Airport Security: CISF deployed at 60+ airports across the country.
    • Metro Security: Security of many metro networks including Delhi Metro.
    • Government Establishments: Security of Parliament House and Government Offices.
    • Disaster Management: Trained as NDRF.
    • Special Security: Security of VIP, sports, cultural and public events.
