  • Recently the first joint commanders conference was held
  • It was held in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh)
  • It was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh
  • The theme of this conference was 'Strong and Secure India: Transformation in Armed Forces'
  • It was attended by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Choudhary, Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane.
  • The objective of this conference was to discuss the current and future challenges to Indian security and measures to deal with them.
  • The focus of this conference was on capacity building for the future.
    • This included organizational structures for joint and integrated action and bringing efficiency, transparency and accountability in the functioning during peace and war.
  • In this conference, the Defense Minister also launched eight innovative applications including e-museum and e-granthalaya as well as a publication on 'Colonial Functions and Armed Forces - A Review'.
    • This is an important step towards establishing greater harmony and synergy between the three services.
