  • He was the son of Chaudhary Devi Lal, the 6th Deputy Prime Minister of India and 2-time Chief Minister of Haryana.
  • Om Prakash Chautala's electoral politics started in the year 1968.
  • He contested the first election from Devi Lal's traditional seat Ellenabad.
  • When by-elections were held in 1970, Chautala contested on a Janata Dal ticket and became an MLA for the first time.
  • In the year 1987, after VP Singh's Janata Dal government was formed at the Centre, father Devi Lal was made the Deputy Prime Minister.
  • On December 2, 1989, Om Prakash Chautala became the Chief Minister of Haryana for the first time.
