Hindi language museum to be established in Varanasi

Why in news?

  • Uttar Pradesh government will establish the country's first Hindi literature museum in Kashi (Varanasi).
  • This museum will be the country's first museum dedicated to a language.
  • Uttar Pradesh government has allocated Rs 25 crore for this.
  • All the old manuscripts and books of eminent Hindi scholars will be present in this museum.
  • Along with the works of Hindi litterateurs, their photographs and important documents and literature related to them will also be available in it.
  • Statues of Hindi scholars will also be installed in it.

Hindi:

  • The name Hindi means land of the Indus River.
  • In the early 11th century, Persian-speaking people gave the name 'Hindi' to the language spoken along the Indus River.
  • Hindi is the most widely spoken language in India.
  • About 70% of the country's population can understand Hindi.
