Why in news?
Recently India has developed its first indigenous Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine.

About Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI):
- It is a non-invasive medical technique.
- It provides detailed images of the internal organs, tissues and structures of the body.
- It uses strong magnetic fields radio waves and computer technology.
- It will be installed at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi by October.
- Objectives:
- Reduce treatment costs
- Reduce dependence on imported medical equipment
- Promote indigenous medical technology
- Key features:
- 1.5 Tesla MRI machine: It will help make India self-reliant in medical technology.
- 80-85% of India's medical equipment requirements are still met through imports.
- Developed in collaboration with SAMEER (Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research).
- Aims to reduce MRI cost by 50%.

- Brain & Spine examination
- Heart & blood vessels
- Bones & joints
- Internal organ examination
- Cancer detection
