India is going to finalize a historic $4 billion defense deal with Russia.
Under this, a plan is being considered to bring Russia's advanced Voronezh radar system to India.
The operation of this radar system will significantly increase India's ability to detect and monitor threats in Asia and the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
What is the Voronezh radar system?
It is a long-range early warning radar manufactured by Russia's Almaz-Antey Corporation
This radar can detect threats like ballistic missiles, fighter aircraft and intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) at a range of more than 8,000 kilometers.
This system has the ability to track more than 500 objects simultaneously.
Its range makes it extremely effective-
Total range up to 10,000 km
Vertical range up to 8,000 km
Horizontal range up to 6,000 km
It has the ability to give complete information about space objects and ICBMs near the Earth.
There will be a big contribution in Make in India:
India's Make in India initiative will be given priority in the manufacture of this radar system.
Under the agreement, more than 60% of the parts will be manufactured in India.
For this, there is a plan to include Indian companies as offset partners.
Where will it be deployed:
Karnataka's Chitradurga district has been selected for the deployment of this radar system.
This area is already the center of India's defense and aerospace facilities.
