Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inducted India's second nuclear-powered submarine, INS Arighat, into the Navy.
Features of INS Arighat
- INS Arighat is the second submarine in the series of indigenous Arihant-class nuclear submarines.
- Earlier INS Arihant was inducted into the Navy in the year 2009.
- This submarine is equipped with 12 K-15 Sagarika submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) with a range of 750 km.
- Sagarika is a hybrid propulsion, two-stage, solid-propellant missile developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
- INS Arighat is an advanced version of the Arihant-class submarine. It has the capacity to carry more missiles than INS Arihant.
- Launched in 2017 under the Advanced Technology Vessel project, the submarine was originally called INS Aridhaman but was later renamed INS Arighat.
- INS Arighat will strengthen the capability to fire nuclear bombs from land, air and sea.
