Recently Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited handed over INS Nirdeshak to the Indian Navy.
INS Nirdeshak :
It is the second ship in the series of four survey ships built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers.
The first ship of this class INS Sandhyak was inducted into the Indian Navy on 3 February this year.
Its displacement is about 3400 tons.
Its total length is 110 meters.
It can achieve a speed of more than 18 knots.
It is powered by two marine diesel engines and fixed-pitch propellers.
It has been built using 'integrated construction' technology.
It is equipped with state-of-the-art hydrographic equipment, such as data acquisition and processing system, long-range positioning system, digital side scan sonar etc.
It will help in increasing India's maritime power in the Indian Ocean region.
