INS Tushil to be commissioned into Indian Navy

Why in news?

  • ‘Tushil’, Indian Navy’s latest multi-role stealth guided missile warship to be commissioned on December 9.

INS Tushil:

  • Tushil means protective shield.
  • Its crest represents impenetrable shield.
  • Its motto is 'Nirbhay, Abhedya and Balsheel' (fearless, indomitable, determined).
  • It is a 125 meter long, 3900 tonne ship.
  • It can carry 180 sailors.
  • During trials, the ship recorded a speed of over 30 knots.
  • The ship is an impressive blend of Russian and Indian state-of-the-art technologies and best practices in warship construction.
  • The new design of the ship gives it radar evasion and better stability.
  • It will join the Indian Navy's 'Sword Arm', the Western Fleet under the Western Naval Command.
  • INS Tushil is an advanced Krivak III class frigate of Project 1135.6.
    • Six of these are already in service
    • Three Talwar class ships were built at Baltiysky Shipyard in St Petersburg
    • Three follow-on Teg class ships were built at Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad.
    • INS Tushil is the seventh ship in the series
    • It is equipped with the latest multi-role stealth guided missile frigates.
