Tiger Reserve
Tiger Reserve is a national park or wildlife sanctuary that has been reserved to preserve and increase the number of tigers in view of the continuous decline in their number.
Process of declaring a Tiger Reserve:
Tiger sanctuaries are notified by the state governments as per the provisions of Section 38V of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 on the advice of the National Tiger Conservation Authority.
To declare any area as a Tiger Reserve, it is necessary for the State Government to obtain permission from the National Tiger Conservation Authority.
In order to preserve the natural habitat of tigers, human activities and hunting are completely prohibited in the Tiger Reserve.
Madhav Tiger Reserve
Madhav National Park is located in Shivpuri district in the northern part of Madhya Pradesh.
It was notified as a national park in the year 1958.
It is the 9th Tiger Reserve of Madhya Pradesh.
Three tigers including two females were introduced to Madhav National Park in the year 2023 under the tiger reintroduction project.
There are two lakes Sakhya Sagar and Madhav Sagar in the southern part of Madhav Tiger Reserve
These lakes not only enhance the natural beauty of the area but also provide a permanent source of water to the wildlife and a fine wetland habitat for aquatic creatures including thousands of migratory waterfowl.
Sakhya Sagar has been designated as a Ramsar site from the year 2022.
