President Smt. Draupadi Murmu presented the National Geoscience Awards on 20 August.
National Geoscience Awards- 2023:
The Ministry of Mines has selected 12 awards for the year 2023
These include 9 individual awards and 3 team awards.
These 12 awards will be given to 21 geologists.
The National Geoscience Award for Lifetime Achievement will be awarded to Professor Dhiraj Mohan Banerjee.
The National Young Geologist Award will be given to Dr. Ashutosh Pandey, Assistant Professor, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research.
National Geoscience Awards:
This is one of the oldest and most prestigious national awards in the field of Geoscience.
These were started in the year 1966 by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India.
Before the year 2009 these awards were called National Mineral Awards.
The objective of these awards is to honour individuals and teams for exceptional achievements and outstanding contributions in various fields of Geoscience.
These fields include mineral exploration and exploration, mining technology and mineral beneficiation, basic/applied Geoscience.
Any Indian citizen who has made significant contribution in any field of Geoscience is eligible for this award.
