Why in News?

• Recently Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh felicitated the National Gopal Ratna Awards 2024 winners.
• It is one of the highest national awards in the livestock and dairy sector for 2024.

National Gopal Ratna Awards

• The aim of National Gopal Ratna Awards is to identify the farmers rearing indigenous animals and the dairy. cooperatives/ milk producing companies/ dairy farmer producer organization.
• who are working in the field of animal husbandry and dairying and to encourage them.
• The award is given in three categories –

1. Best Dairy Farmer rearing indigenous cow/ buffalo breeds.
2. Best Artificial Insemination Technician.
3. Best Dairy Cooperative/ Milk Producing Company/ Dairy Farmer Producer Organization.

• From this year, the Department has included a special award for the States of North Eastern Region in all the three categories under National Gopal Ratna Awards.
  • The aim is to encourage dairy development activities in the North Eastern Region.
• The award includes a cash prize of Rs.5 lakh for the first category, Rs.3 lakh for the second category, Rs.2 lakh for the third category and Rs.2 lakh for the special award in North Eastern Region.
