Organizing Good Governance Week

Why in the NEWS?

  • Good Governance Week is being celebrated by the Central Government from 19 to 24 December 2024.
  • All districts will organize workshops on good governance practices on December 23, 2024.
  • A national level workshop will be organized at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi on 23 December 2024.
  • It will be attended by eminent officials from Ministries/Departments including Secretaries of the Government of India.

Objective of Good Governance Week:

  • Increasing public participation: 
    • To promote transparency and accountability between the government and the public.
  • Grievance redresses: 
    • To listen to public grievances and to redress them promptly.
  • Improve service delivery: 
    • To make government services more efficient and effective.
  • Corruption free India: 
    • To spread awareness against corruption and eliminate corruption.
  • Empowerment: 
    • To make citizens aware of their rights and empower them.
  • In this, a campaign called 'Administration towards Village' is also being conducted.

'Administration towards Village' Campaign:

  • It is a nationwide campaign for redresses of public grievances and improvement in service delivery.
  • It started on 19 December 2024 in 700+ districts of the country.
  • Its objective is to bring effective governance closer to the rural people.
  • During this, the following activities will be conducted-
    • Redresses of public grievances in special camps
    • Redresses of public grievances in state portals
    • Disposal of service delivery applications
    • Collation and dissemination of good governance practices
    • Success stories on resolution of public grievances

Good Governance:

  • It is such a governance in which the interests of all citizens are taken care of.
  • It is transparent, accountable, inclusive, participatory and effective governance.
  • Its objective is to establish a strong relationship between the government, citizens and the private sector so that the country can develop.

Good Governance Day

  • It is celebrated every year on 25 December in India.
  • It is celebrated on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
  • This day is dedicated to promoting good governance in the country and providing better services to the public.
