Pandit Swapan Choudhary receives Tansen Award

Why in news?

• Recently, the National Tansen Award for the year 2023 was given to the famous tabla player Pt. Swapan Choudhary.
• These awards were given in a ceremony held in Gwalior.
• Apart from the National Tansen Award, Raja Mansingh Tomar Awards were also given in this ceremony.
• The "Raja Mansingh Tomar Samman" for the year 2023 was awarded to Sanand Nyas, an institution of Indore.
• The National Tansen Award was given to Pt. Swapan Choudhary of Kolkata, a well-known tabla player of Indian classical music.
• Under this award, an honorarium of Rs 5 lakh, a citation and a shawl-shriphal were given.
• This award has been instituted by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in honor of Music Emperor Tansen.
• This award is the highest national honor in the field of Indian classical music.

Pandit Swapan Choudhary

• He was born on 30 March 1945 in West Bengal.
• Swapan Choudhary has also been nominated for the Grammy Award twice.
• When he first performed tabla in the year 1966.

National Tansen Award

• Tansen Award is given by the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
• This award was given in the year 1980 was established.
• This award is given by the Madhya Pradesh government for notable contribution in the field of Hindustani classical music.
• Under this award, honorarium of Rs 5 lakh, citation and shawl-shriphal are given.
