  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded Kuwait's highest honour, ‘The Order of Mubarak Al Kabir’.
  • He was given this honour by Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
  • Narendra Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to receive this honour.
  • This is the 20th international honour given to Narendra Modi by any country.

Order of Mubarak Al Kabir

  • The Order of Mubarak Al Kabir is a knighthood order of Kuwait.
  • This award is given to heads of state and foreign rulers and members of foreign royal families as a mark of friendship.
  • Earlier, this award has been given to foreign leaders like Bill Clinton, Prince Charles and George Bush.
  • The Mubarak Al-Kabir order was established in 1974 in honour of Mubarak Al Sabah, also known as Mubarak the Great.
    • He was the ruler of Kuwait from 1896 to 1915.
    • During his rule, he worked towards giving Kuwait greater independence from the Ottoman Empire.
