Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan launched Project 'Shaurya Gatha' during the second edition of the Indian Military Heritage Festival.
About Project Shaurya Gatha:
- 'Project Shaurya Gatha' is an initiative of the Department of Military Affairs (DMA). It has been started in collaboration with the Center for Military History and Conflict Studies under the United Services Institute (USI).
- Apart from the Department of Military Affairs, the USI, Tourism, Culture, Education, Home and External Affairs Ministries are also involved in this project.
Objective of Project Shaurya Gatha:
- To preserve heritage and promote military tourism in border areas'.
- To identify and restore major military landmarks
- These include forts, battlefields, monuments and museums etc. which will promote military tourism in border areas.
- To develop a comprehensive National Military Heritage Conservation Policy
- Through this, historical heritage, such as ancient battlefields, war memorials and museums can be preserved.
- To publish various sources containing information about major war fields, military museums, monuments and ancient military history of India
- For this, a website and app will be created so that military history can also be made available to international viewers and listeners.
- To ensure economic development by developing the border area holistically through military tourism.
- This will improve the infrastructure here and will also provide new employment opportunities.
Indian Military Heritage Festival:
- The Indian Military Heritage Festival is a major annual event showcasing India's rich military heritage and traditions.
- Its objectives also include enhancing understanding of India's military traditions, contemporary security and strategy issues and promoting efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in military capability through the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
- Apart from this, the festival brings together Indian think tanks, corporations, public and private sector undertakings, non-profit organizations, academics and research scholars to focus on India's national security, foreign policy, military history and military heritage.
