Why in News?
Recently, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched a new special capacity building course to help top athletes become coaches.

About Special Capacity Building Course
- This course is designed and developed for athletes who are currently employed in various central government or autonomous departments, organizations under the central government or public sector undertakings.
- The course will cover modern coaching, sports science, yogasana and leadership.
- Objective: To help top athletes become coaches, referees and technical officials.
- Organised: By Sports Authority of India and Indian Institute of Sports Patiala.
- Eligibility:
- The eligibility criteria for this course is participation or medal winning in Olympics, World Championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games.
- Medal winners of Youth Olympics, Junior World Championships, World University Games, Senior National Championships and National Games can take admission in this course.
- The educational qualification required is a minimum graduation or equivalent degree from any recognized university in India.
- Certification: The course has four certification levels - Foundation, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate and Advanced Certificate.
- Reason: Renowned badminton coach Pullela Gopichand had highlighted the lack of respect at the workplace for former athletes working under sports quota and sought help in enhancing their skills.
- After which a new course was launched by the Sports Ministry to address this issue quickly.
- Importance:
- It will prepare the candidates to integrate with the sports ecosystem and enhance their professional skills.
- Selected coaches coming out of this course will also be sent for special training abroad.
- India has submitted a letter of intent to host the 2036 Olympics to the International Olympic Committee and is also interested in hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
