Sri Lanka-India Naval Exercise - SLINEX 2024

Why in the news?

• Recently Sri Lanka-India Naval Exercise SLINEX 2024 started.
• It will be organized in Visakhapatnam from 17 to 20 December 2024.
• This exercise will be conducted in two phases -
  • Port Phase from 17 to 18 December
  • Sea phase from 19 to 20 December.
• This joint naval exercise will demonstrate the capabilities of indigenously built naval ships and aircraft in India.
• During this exercise, surface and air attack exercises, weapons firing, development of seamanship and shipping and maneuvers and cross deck flight operations will be practiced.
• This will benefit in taking the already established interoperability procedures between the two friendly navies to greater heights in the future.
• The aim of this exercise is to further strengthen the strong maritime relations between India and Sri Lanka, as well as promote a safe, secure and rules-based maritime environment.
• This exercise reflects the deep engagement between India and Sri Lanka, which has strengthened mutual cooperation in the maritime sector.

• This naval exercise was started in the year 2005
• It has strengthened maritime cooperation between India and Sri Lanka.
• Objectives
  • To enhance mutual cooperation between the navies of the two countries for multi-dimensional maritime operations
  • To improve mutual understanding.
  • To exchange best practices and procedures.
