Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM)
Why in news?
Recently, DRDO and Indian Navy successfully test fired VLSRSAM (Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile) missile from Integrated Test Range (ITR) located at Chandipur, Odisha.
T`he missile successfully destroyed a high-speed aerial target at low altitude after being fired from a land-based vertical launcher.
This successful test of VLSRSAM is an important step towards enhancing the Indian Navy's ability to deal with aerial threats.
Features of VLSRSAM missile
This missile has been completely developed in India, increasing the self-reliance of the country.
It has been developed to be fired from warships of the Indian Navy.
This missile is designed for vertical launch from warships, allowing it to be easily deployed on ships.
This missile is capable of destroying fighter jets, helicopters, drones (UAVs) and sea-borne missiles.
This system provides 360-degree protection shield of aerial threats coming from all directions.
It has dual-mode seeker technology, allowing it to accurately hit the target.
Equipped with active radar homing system, which gives the missile the ability to autonomously pursue and destroy the target.
