Recently, the 'Vikasit Panchayat Karma yogi' initiative was launched to strengthen grassroots good governance.
It was launched on the occasion of Good Governance Day, celebrated to mark the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
This comprehensive initiative is part of the 'Administration to Village' campaign.
Objective
It aims to enhance the capacity and capability of Panchayati Raj institutions by equipping elected representatives and officials with the necessary tools and knowledge for effective governance and participatory planning.
It aims to initiate governance reforms at the grassroots level to bridge the capacity gap while bringing about long-term and meaningful change.
This is in line with the government's broader mission to promote decentralization of governance and participation at the grassroots level.
This initiative will create a scalable model of citizen-centric governance.
Panchayati Raj
In India many committees related to Panchayats were formed.
Balwant Rai Mehta,
Ashok Mehta Committee,
Hanumant Rao Committee,
G.V.K. Rao Committee.
As a result of these committees, the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act of 1992 provided for a three-tier Panchayati Raj system at the Gram Sabha, intermediate and district levels.
This amendment added Part IX and Schedule 11 to the Indian Constitution.
This Act empowered the states to take necessary steps to formalize the Gram Panchayats at the village level and help them function as units of self-governance.
In India, two-tier and three-tier Panchayat system has been implemented based on the circumstances of the particular place.
National Panchayati Raj Day is celebrated every year on 24 April since the implementation of the 73rd Amendment Act on 24 April 1993.
Panchayati Raj institutions work on 29 subjects mentioned in the 11th Schedule of the Constitution.
