Why in the news

• Recently a comprehensive national mock drill, “Virus War Exercise” was conducted.

Virus War Exercise

• It was organized in Ajmer district of Rajasthan under the aegis of National One Health Mission.
• The aim of this exercise was to evaluate the response of the National Joint Outbreak Response Team composed of experts from human health, animal husbandry and wildlife sectors.
• This exercise had two major components –
  1. Detection and identification of the virus responsible for the simulated outbreak
  2. Actions taken to control the spread of the disease in human and animal populations
• This exercise highlighted the role of One Health Mission by promoting collaboration to take care of the health of humans, animals, plants and the environment in a holistic and sustainable manner.
