Features of VSHORADS missile system:

  • Man Portable Air Defence System (MANPADS):
    • It is a portable system, which can be easily operated by a single man.
  • Indigenous development:
    • It has been developed by Research Centre of DRDO (RCI),
    • It has been indigenously designed in collaboration with Indian industrial partners.
  • Testing Process:
    • During the test, two field operators prepared the weapon, identified the target, and completed the missile firing process.
  • Elimination of Drones and Aerial Threats:
    • The system is capable of effectively neutralizing drones and other aerial threats.
  • Advanced Tracking System:
    • The capability of the missile system was verified using equipment such as telemetry, electro-optical tracking system and radar.
  • Useful for Military Forces:
    • This missile system meets the requirements of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force and will strengthen the air security of the country.
  • Step towards Self-reliant India:
    • The VSHORADS system has been developed under India's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' vision,
    • It promotes indigenous defense manufacturing.
    • This system plays an important role in strengthening India's defense capabilities.
  • "Hit-to-Kill" Capability:
    • The "hit-to-kill" capability of the system was clearly demonstrated during the trials, proving its accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Replace Russian Igla System:
    • The VSHORADS missile system can replace the old Russian Igla system by the Indian Army, which is now considered technologically backward.
