Two indigenously built warships Nilgiri and Surat handed over to the Indian Navy.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) has delivered two capital warships, Nilgiri and Surat, to the Indian Navy.
Both the warships have been designed by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau
The construction has been carried out by MDL
It has been supervised by the Mumbai-based Warship Inspection Team.
Warship Nilgiri:
'Nilgiri' is a first-of-class (FOC) ship of Project 17A.
It uses cutting-edge advanced technology
It can be compared with the best ships of this class in the world.
It incorporates design concepts for enhanced survivability, seaworthiness, and stealth and ship mobility.
It incorporates state-of-the-art stealth features through the use of hull shape and radar transparent deck fittings, which make the ships difficult to detect.
It is equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors.
It has all-round firepower against enemy submarines, surface warships, anti-ship missiles and fighter aircraft.
It is also fitted with guns for close defence capability and effective naval firepower.
With significant indigenous content, the 'Nilgiri' is capable of operating independently without any support vessel,
It can also act as the flagship ship of a naval task force.
Warship Surat:
'Surat' is the fourth ship of Project 15B and is a potent ship capable of undertaking diverse tasks and missions across the full spectrum of maritime warfare.
It is armed with supersonic surface-to-surface 'BrahMos' missiles and medium-range surface-to-air 'Barak-8' missiles.
For undersea warfare capability, the destroyer 'Surat' is fitted with indigenously developed anti-submarine weapons and sensors
These include hull-mounted sonar Hamsa NG, heavyweight torpedo tube launchers and ASW rocket launchers.
It is significantly more versatile than the previous classes of destroyers and frigates in the naval stock
'Surat' has all-round capability against enemy submarines, surface warships, anti-ship missiles and fighter aircraft
This will enable it to operate independently without supporting ships and act as the flagship of a naval task force.
