World Cancer Day is observed every year on 4 February
It aims to promote awareness of cancer as a public health issue.
The theme of World Cancer Day 2025 is 'United by Unique'
This theme highlights the importance of individualized care and treatment to meet the specific needs of each individual.
History of World Cancer Day:
World Cancer Day was started on 4 February 2000.
It was founded by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).
It is the leading international organization in the fight against cancer.
What is cancer (according to WHO)-
Cancer is a large group of diseases, which can start in almost any organ or tissue of the body.
In this, cells grow uncontrollably and go beyond normal limits and invade the surrounding parts of the body.
Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide.
Globally, 1 in 6 deaths are caused by cancer.
Need for cancer awareness:
Cancer is a disease that can often be cured if caught in the early stages.
In most cases, people are not aware of the symptoms of cancer.
Due to this, the disease reaches an advanced stage and treatment becomes difficult.
Symptoms of cancer:
Rapid weight loss
Abnormal pain
Persistent cough
Bleeding (bleeding)
Formation of lumps; etc.
Cancer treatments:
Treatment is selected based on the type of cancer and its stage.
In some cases, a combination of treatments can also be used; which includes-
National Cancer Awareness Day:
Celebrated every year on 7 November.
It was celebrated for the first time in 2014.
