World Cancer Day: 4 February

History of World Cancer Day:

  • World Cancer Day was started on 4 February 2000.
  • It was founded by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).
  • It is the leading international organization in the fight against cancer.

What is cancer (according to WHO)-

  • Cancer is a large group of diseases, which can start in almost any organ or tissue of the body.
  • In this, cells grow uncontrollably and go beyond normal limits and invade the surrounding parts of the body.
  • Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide.
  • Globally, 1 in 6 deaths are caused by cancer.

Need for cancer awareness:

  • Cancer is a disease that can often be cured if caught in the early stages.
  • In most cases, people are not aware of the symptoms of cancer.
  • Due to this, the disease reaches an advanced stage and treatment becomes difficult.

Symptoms of cancer:

  • Rapid weight loss
  • Abnormal pain
  • Persistent cough
  • Bleeding (bleeding)
  • Formation of lumps; etc.

Cancer treatments:

  • Treatment is selected based on the type of cancer and its stage.

 National Cancer Awareness Day:
