World Teachers' Day is celebrated globally on 5 October every year.
Its purpose:
To honor the contribution of teachers around the world, their dedication, and devotion
To raise awareness about the rights of teachers
To emphasize the importance of quality education at the global level
This year's theme is - ‘Valuing teachers' voices: towards a new social contract for education.’
Why is World Teachers' Day celebrated on 5 October:
In the year 1966, a meeting of UNESCO and the International Labor Organization was held.
In this, it was recommended to make guidelines regarding the rights, responsibilities, etc. of teachers.
On 5 October 1994, UNESCO recognized the recommendation of the International Labor Organization (ILO).
Announced to celebrate 5 October as World Teachers' Day.
These recommendations helped set standards with respect to teachers’ rights, responsibilities, further education, recruitment, employment and standards of teaching, learning conditions.
