World's first Asian King Vulture Conservation and Breeding Centre in Uttar Pradesh

  • Recently, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Jatayu Conservation and Breeding Center.
  • It has been established in the Campierganj Range in Maharajganj district.
  • It is the world's first conservation and breeding center for Asian King Vulture (Red-headed Vulture).
  • The aim of this center is to ensure the good health of vultures.
  • This center has been named Jatayu Conservation and Breeding Centre.
  • This center has high-tech equipment to monitor these vultures and take care of them at all times.
  • Vultures are being monitored here 24 hours a day.

Asian King Vulture:

  • Asian King Vultures were earlier found all over India.
  • The number of these birds declined drastically due to the drug Diclofenac.
  • It is listed as a critically endangered species in the Red List of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
  • It is listed in Schedule 1 of Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
