It is a ray-finned euryhaline (large saline expansion tolerant) fish and the largest species in the Gar family. Its scientific name is Atractosteus spatula.
Its body is torpedo shaped and the teeth are sharped while the head is like a crocodile.
It is mainly found in Central and North America. It is classified in the ‘Least Concerned’ in IUCN red List.
