Apis Carinjodian is a new species of endemic bee discovered in the Western Ghats. This new species has been named Indian Black Honey Bee.
This species is found in parts of Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu from Central Western Ghats and Nilgiris to South Western Ghats.
Its high quantity honey production capacity provides new opportunities for increase in honey production.
It is classified as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List. With the discovery of this new species, the number of bee species in the world has increased to 11.
