In the Avascular Necrosis blood supply to the bone tissue is reduced or interrupted, which leads to fracture and destruction of bone tissue. It is also known as Osteonecrosis and death of bone tissues. Generally, people in the age group of 30-50 are most affected by it.
In the initial stage, symptoms are usually not visible. In severe cases, pain accurs in the affected bone due to weight or injury.
It can be caused by long-term use of high steroidal drugs and excessive consumption of alcohol.
Recently, All India Institute of Medical Sciences has sought approval from the Indian Council of Medical Research for a comprehensive investigation of cases of Avascular Necrosis detected in patients cured of Covid 19.
