Bamboo Crash Barrier

  • India has installed the world's first bamboo crash barrier made of Bambusa balcoa species of bamboo on Maharashtra's Vani-Worora highway.
  • Bambusa balcoa is a tropical clumping bamboo grown mainly in Northeast India and West Bengal.
  • It is generally used for the construction of houses, bridges, fishing boats, scaffolding and baskets.
  • Besides being an alternative to existing steel barriers, bamboo crash barriers also have a higher recycling value than steel barriers.
