This sanctuary is located in Raipur district of Chhattisgarh. The sanctuary contains major vegetation of Teak, Sal and Mixed forest.
Three rivers- Balmedhi, Jonk and Mahanadi flow around it as the lifeline of this sanctuary. The Balmedhi forms its western boundary, while the Jonk flows along the north-eastern boundary.
Within it lies the Balar Reservoir which provides shelter to wetland birds and fishes.
Cheetal, sambhar, nilgai, wild boar, sloth bear and wild dog are found here. Chhattisgarh Forest Department has shifted some wild buffaloes from Assam to this sanctuary.
