Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary

  • This sanctuary is located in Raipur district of Chhattisgarh. The sanctuary contains major vegetation of Teak, Sal and Mixed forest.
  • Three rivers- Balmedhi, Jonk and Mahanadi flow around it as the lifeline of this sanctuary. The Balmedhi forms its western boundary, while the Jonk flows along the north-eastern boundary.
  • Within it lies the Balar Reservoir which provides shelter to wetland birds and fishes.
  • Cheetal, sambhar, nilgai, wild boar, sloth bear and wild dog are found here. Chhattisgarh Forest Department has shifted some wild buffaloes from Assam to this sanctuary.
