Boma Capturing Technique

• Boma Capturing Technique is the process of wild life shifting in which animals are entered in a funnel or V shaped (Boma) fence. To confuse the animals, grass mats and green nets are put in the boma. There is no harm to the animals in this process.

• The shape of the fence is made wider on one side and narrower on the other, leading to a larger cage or transport so that animals can enter in it. This is a popular technique in Africa.

• For the first time in the history of Indian wildlife conservation, using this technique in Madhya Pradesh, Nilgai was caught and released in Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary located on the banks of Chambal river. Similarly, it has been used in Kanha Tiger Reserve and at many other places.

• Recently, the technique is being used to catch Spotted Deer in Keoladeo National Park in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan and transfer it to Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve.
