Canary Black Honeybee

  • ‘Canary Black Honeybee’ is a species of honeybee found at Canary Island of Spain. Its commercial farming is being operated in various countries.
  • These honeybees can stay alive in adverse condition too. Recently, a volcanic explosion took place at canary Island and toxic gases and lava were erupted. Despite being trapped in it, thousands of Canary Black Honeybees came out alive after around 50 days.
  • To abstain from volcanic ash and toxic gases bees captured themselves in the hive by using a matter named propolis (glue of honeybees). During this, they used honey as food stored in the hive.
  • ‘Propolis’ is a resin-like substance, which is produced by honeybees by using the substances collected from plants and buds.
