It has recently been decided by the Union Ministry of Communications to set up a 'Digital Intelligence Unit' (DIU) as a nodal agency to deal with complaints related to Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC) and digital financial fraud cases.
The DIU will be instrumental in coordinating between law enforcement agencies, financial institutions and telecom service providers in investigating any type of fraud involving telecommunications resources and to increase people's confidence in the digital ecosystem .
Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection to protect the rights of telecom customers (TafCop) system will also be developed. Therefore, financial transactions will be more robust.
This unit will ensure compliance with the 'Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations' (TCCCPR), 2018 in India. It is important that TCCCPR provides a regulatory framework for 'Unwanted Commercial Communications' (UCC) in India.
