Easter Islands

  • The Easter Islands are located in the South-East Pacific Ocean. The island is formed by three extinct volcanoes Poike, Rano Kau and Terevka.
  • It is a region of Chile as well as part of the Polynesian Triangle of Oceania.
  • Most of it is protected within the Rapa Nui National Park, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in1995.
  • Recently, scientists have discovered stone age human figurines 'moai' in Easter Island, which were carved by natives called Rapa Nui.
