Endosulfan is an insecticide which appears as a brown colured solid crystalline form. It smells like turpentine, but it does not burn.
This synthetically produced insecticide is banned under the Stockholm Convention. However, in India its use is permitted for certain crops under certain restrictions.
Endosulfan is also used as an insect controller in food and non-food crops and as a wood preservative.
Its widespread use in cashew crop in Kasaragod district of Kerala causing serious impact on human health.
