Endosulfan

  • Endosulfan is an insecticide which appears as a brown colured solid crystalline form. It smells like turpentine, but it does not burn.
  • This synthetically produced insecticide is banned under the Stockholm Convention. However, in India its use is permitted for certain crops under certain restrictions.
  • Endosulfan is also used as an insect controller in food and non-food crops and as a wood preservative.
  • Its widespread use in cashew crop in Kasaragod district of Kerala causing serious impact on human health.
