Floating Trash Barrier

  • A Bengaluru-based firm, AlphaMERS Ltd. developed the Floating Trash Barrier (FTB) which uses the natural flow of water to brings the waste stored in the water bodies to its shores.
  • The waste is then mechanically removed from the banks of the water bodies.
  • FTB has been deployed in eight cities - Bengaluru, Chennai, Puducherry, Hyderabad, Mysore, Thanjavur, Tuticorin and Coimbatore.
  • Recently this technology has been awarded the Cleaning and Restoring India's Water Bodies Challenge award organized by the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA).
