A Bengaluru-based firm, AlphaMERS Ltd. developed the Floating Trash Barrier (FTB) which uses the natural flow of water to brings the waste stored in the water bodies to its shores.
The waste is then mechanically removed from the banks of the water bodies.
FTB has been deployed in eight cities - Bengaluru, Chennai, Puducherry, Hyderabad, Mysore, Thanjavur, Tuticorin and Coimbatore.
Recently this technology has been awarded the Cleaning and Restoring India's Water Bodies Challenge award organized by the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA).
