What is Form 17C in elections?

  • The petition filed in SC demanded to make public the data of Form 17C of Lok Sabha elections.
    • On this, SC refused to give any instructions to the Election Commission.
    • According to the Election Commission, it is not legally mandatory to make this data public.
  • Form 17C:
    • This form is mentioned in the Election Conduct Rules 1961.
    • Its first part contains the following information-
      • Number of eligible voters of the polling station
      • Identification number of EVM
      • Total number of votes recorded per EVM; etc.
    • After voting, a copy of it is given to the polling agent.
    • In its second part, along with the name of the candidate, there is information about the total votes received by him.
    • It can be used in disputes related to election results.
