The World Health Organization (WHO) has released the first list of fungal priority pathogens. It includes 19 fungi causing massive harm to public health.
This list will help in addressing the public health importance and meeting the needs of the R&D sector.
It is divided into three categories of moderate, high and severe priority based on the public health impact of the pathogen or the emerging antifungal resistance risk.
It is noteworthy that global warming, increase in international travel and trade are promoting fungal infection.
