Global Methane Initiative is a voluntary international partnership. It was initiated in the year of 2004. Many countries including India are its members. Along with the government, private sector, development bank, non-governmental organization etc are also enjoined in it.
This forum works towards reducing global anthropogenic methane emission through partnership between developed and developing economies. It mainly concentrates to the three main methane emitter sectors coal, petroleum and biogas.
It provides technical assistance for the construction of the projects generating energy from methane and solves the obstacles coming in it.
Methane emission is a big concern because it is 25-28 times more harmful greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.
