The country's first 'Graphene Innovation Center' is being set up in Kerala for research and development of graphene. It will provide a platform to students, researchers, enterprises and startups to test, explore and innovate graphene based products.
Graphene is one of the strongest materials in the world and is transparent and very light. It is an isotope of carbon. It has electrical conductivity and chemical stability. It is also called 'Wonder Material' owing to this quality.
According to the latest research, graphene has the potential to replace Indium (In). So it can reduce the cost of organic light emitting diodes used in screens of smartphones etc.
It is used in biological engineering, energy storage and filtration paints, solar panels, etc.
