Researchers have discovered a new species of Moray eel off the Cuddalore coast of Tamil Nadu. The species is named after Tamil Nadu as Gymnothorax tamilnaduensis, while the common name is Tamil Nadu brown moray.
This new species differs from other species of its genus in having small dark spots on the head and a line of dark spots on the middle of the body.
Through exploratory survey first record of genus Gymnothorax in South India has been collected. With the discovery of this new species, the total number of eel species in Indian waters has gone up to 29.
