The Kaas Plateau is made of igneous rocks in the Satara district of Maharashtra. It is included in the biosphere reserve of the Western Ghats.
This plateau is included in the list of Natural World Heritage Sites of UNESCO. Here the natural cycle of extreme weather conditions is normal.
Relatively thin layer of soil is found here unlike other plateaus or tablelands of this region. The government has set a maximum number of tourists per day to preserve the bio-diversity here.
